A joint venture between Royal BAM Group subsidiary CEI-DE Meyer and Jan de Nul will carry out major civils work for Belgium’s Mechelen bypass project.

Contracts worth 85 million euros were handed out by infrastructure owner Infrabel for construction works to the north and south of Mechelen railway station.

Both contracts are part of the construction of a new rail bypass to improve the accessibility to the city.

The joint venture will construct new railway crossings, a tunnel under the Leuven-Dijle Canal, a railway bridge over the Leuven-Dijle Canal, a rail bridge over the river Dijle and adjustments of rail tracks and overhead lines.

Work will begin this summer and is expected to be complete by 2016.
