Thales and Trakce have been handed a 76 million euro contract by Polish infrastructure manager PKP PLK for the modernisation of the Radom to Warsaw line.
The project includes the design and construction of systems, including control centres, maintenance and diagnostic centres, interlocking systems and axle counters, telecommunications, passenger information systems and CCTV.
The Radom to Warsaw Okecie line is approximately 100 km long and is used by thousands of commuters every day.
The modernisation will enhance safety, increase the capacity of the line and enable trains to run at speeds of up to 160 km/h, reducing journey times by half.
Pawel Piotrowski, Thales country director in Poland, said: “This project is another important step in improving the railway infrastructure in Poland.
“We are delighted to have won this important contract, further strengthening our position on the Polish railway market.
“This latest award follows another recent success in Poland, where Thales is part of the consortium chosen to modernise the 350 km E65 line linking Warsaw and Gdynia.”
