The driver of an SNCF service in the south of France and 31 passengers who were onboard have been injured after the train they were travelling on collided with a mobile crane.

Seventy-five people were on the train when it struck a crane between Marseille and Miramas at around 8.23 this morning (April 16).

French media reports say the train struck the vehicle at a level crossing and dragged it beside the track after the crane pierced one of the carriages.

Injured passengers were taken to hospital and are now undergoing treatment, with many receiving counselling.
SNCF has said an investigation has been launched to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
