Passengers expecting to see their usual class 680 Pendolino pulling into Prague hlavní nádraží station yesterday (April 17) were greeted by one of the new Railjet trains due to enter full service next year.

A special two-day trip is underway between Graz, Vienna, Brno and Prague to preview the cross-border service before it carries its first passengers in December 2014.

“The rapid Railjet from Graz via Vienna to Prague in December 2014, [is] an important next step in our quality initiative,” said Christian Kern, chief executive of ÖBB-Holding.

“Through the partnership with the Czech Railways we build the offer for our customers.”

Czech Railways (ČD) ordered 16 Viaggio vehicles – also known as Railjet – from Siemens in 2011 off the back of a larger order by ÖBB.
