Signalling Solutions has recruited 13 graduates to its growing team.

The Alstom/Balfour Beatty joint venture, which has delivered signalling renewal works at sites around the UK – including the modification of the Great Western Main Line to support new Crossrail trains, received 500 applications for its recruitment programme.

Five graduates joined the company in January across project management, planning, test, estimating and engineering departments, with a further eight due to start in June off the back of the company’s latest campaign.

Orla O’Connor, resourcing manager at Signalling Solutions, said: “All our graduates go through a three-year graduate training programme which gives them an ideal foundation to build on their existing skills and realise their high potential.

“Further training courses and on the job training also give our graduates a great start.”

Orla added: “Development is a key part of Signalling Solutions and we show commitment to accelerating success and building our team.”

Research by EngineeringUK has predicted that engineering companies in the UK will need to fill 2.74 million positions between 2010 and 2020. Each year, the industry will need to find 87,000 graduates – double the number currently leaving UK universities.

Chris Kelly, a graduate project manager who started his career with Signalling Solutions in January, said: “I have really enjoyed my first commissioning and the team I worked with were brilliant.”
