Project Focus: The Interchange

Listen to this article

Next year, a new multi-modal transport hub will transform rail transit in Minneapolis.

The $79.3 million Interchange project will connect up rail travel in the city, providing connections to the Hiawatha LRT, Northeast Commuter Rail, the Central Corridor LRT – which is under construction – and a number of bus routes in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.

Knutson Construction has designed the new station and is leading construction works on the site.

As well as improving rail connections in Minneapolis, The Interchange has been designed as a new modern public space for the city.

The station will be surrounded by The Great Lawn – a new park designed by the project as a ‘green stage’, which could be used for community concerts and events.

An amphitheater called The Cascade is also being built as a new entertainment venue.
