SNCF sets out promise to improve TGV Nord trains

Listen to this article

SNCF has announced plans for a major overhaul of its TGV Nord trains between Paris and Lille in response to criticisms over the cost of the high-speed service.

All TGV Nord trains are now undergoing modernisation. As well as improved interiors, each train will be repainted to feature a new grey and white livery.

On the 20th anniversary of the launch of the first high-speed TGV service, SNCF confirmed that it would also be offering a new 20 euro weekend ticket between Paris and all destinations in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.

The new cheap ticket and programme of improvements follow criticisms from officials and consumer groups unhappy about the high cost of TGV Nord trains.

As well as upgraded rolling stock, SNCF said that 300 million euros is being invested to replace heavily used sections of track.
