The Victorian Coalition Government has ordered a further eight X’Trapolis trains to add to Melbourne’s growing fleet.

Ministers announced the order as the last of the last run of seven vehicles arrived in the city.

There are currently 74 X’Trapolis trainsets in operation around Melbourne’s suburban rail network.

Terry Mulder, Minister of Transport, said: “This year’s Victorian Budget has allocated $176.1 million for a new order of eight more X’Trapolis trains and supporting infrastructure, which will begin arriving on the network in 2015.

“Track, signalling, power and maintenance facility upgrades will also enable the X’Trapolis trains to run on the Frankst on, Werribee and Williamstown lines, in addition to the six train lines they currently run on.”
