Freightliner has announced acquisition of Dutch rail operator ERS from Maersk Line.

The move will allow Freightliner to develop its European operations, with ERS Railways already operating out of ports in Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Lübeck and Rostock

Freightliner has said that financial details of the deal, which is subject to approval, will not be disclosed.

Peter Maybury, chief executive of Freightliner Group, said in a statement: “The acquisition of ERS is a very good fit with our growth strategy and further extends our profitable footprint, following our successful entry into the Polish and German bulk haul markets over the last seven years and our entry into Australia in 2009.”
