Mott MacDonald will be the detailed design consultant for phase three of the Delhi Metro system’s expansion after winning the contract from the Hindustan Construction Company–Samsung joint venture.

The project will involve geotechnical, civil and structural engineering services during the design and construction of a 4.5km tunnel from Janakpuri West to Palam and three new underground stations.

Work is scheduled to be completed by 2016.

The extension of Delhi’s metro network will see ‘new circular lines interchange with existing radial lines’.

Mohan Gupta, Mott MacDonald’s divisional director, said: “Our association with Delhi Metro goes back over 10 years and we have played an important part in the system’s success.

“We’re looking forward to continuing our involvement and will use our knowledge from previous phases to provide solutions in what are often challenging soft ground conditions in Delhi.”
