Rail and road authorities in Norway are to look at how they can increase capacity on Oslo’s busy public transport network.

Rail infrastructure manager Jernbaneverket and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration will conduct a joint study, aiming to identify to best way to develop and expand all modes of public transport in the city.

In particular, the investigation will look at how rail services can be improved in Oslo and Akershus.

Transport Minister Marit Arnstad said: “If we are to achieve the goal of growth in passenger transport in the metropolitan area to include environmentally friendly solutions, the capacity of the public transport system [needs to] expand.”

The study is expected to be completed by 2015.
