Abellio ScotRail has issued a tender notice for the supply of up to 400 new electric trains with the added option of maintenance.
The contract, for which tenders have to be in by November 16, 2013, covers the design, manufacture, testing, commissioning and introduction of the new fleet of trains.
According to the tender documents the order will be worth between £100 million and £600 million with a duration of no more than 132 months from the date the contract is awarded.
The first train is expected to be ready to enter service by April 1, 2016, a year after the current franchise, operated by FirstGroup, expires.
This is one of the first concrete indications of which operators will bid for the franchise.

I don’t think this is ‘400 Electric Trains’? Is this 100 x 4 car sets, or a mixture of 3, 4, or 5 car sets? I think this should read ‘100 Electric Trains’ for the new Scottish networks. Could you check this out Jonathan, please?
