Tours transport officials have officially opened the city’s new tram system.

The 21 new light rail vehicles, which have been designed and built by Alstom, feature a reflective exterior designed to ‘mirror the waters of the Loire’.

The network stretches for 15 kilometres around the city, calling at 29 stations along the route.

A 1.8 kilometre section has also been fitted with Alstom’s APS system – a third rail power supply that only electrifies the line surrounding the tram.

The Tours train station-Place Choiseul section is catenary free to protect the historic city centre.
