Parsons Brinckerhoff and Fluor Corporation have been awarded an eight-year project management contract for the design and construction of a 950-kilometre railway in Saudi Arabia.

The new line, which will serve mainly as a freight route, will connect Jeddah with Riyadh and link to an existing line between Riyadh and King Abdul Aziz Port at Dammam.

Parsons Brinckerhoff was involved in the planning of the line in 1997 and is helping plan other rail projects around the country.

Flu-or Corporation was previously awarded the management consultancy contract by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

Parsons Brinckerhoff’s role will focus on tunnelling works and bridges.
