Lorraine has received its first Regiolis trainset, marking another milestone in the roll out of France’s next generation of regional trains.

Lorraine, which has ordered 10 new trains, follows the Aquitaine region, which welcomed the Regiolis in July during a ceremony in Bordeaux.

SNCF has signed a contract with Alstom for 182 new trains, based on the Coradia Polyvalent design, to operate in 12 French regions.

By the end of 2014, around 100 trains are expected to have been delivered, with the Regiolis due to complete the certification phase next month.

As well as Lorraine and Aquitaine, the Regiolis will be delivered to Alsace, Lower Normandy and Picardie by the end of 2013, ahead of the start of operation in 2014.

The bimodal Regiolis train is 72 metres long and has a capacity for 219 passengers.
