Siemens’ Inspiro metro train has received approval to operate in Warsaw.

Certification will allow the new trains to start full revenue service, with the first of the 35 six-car trains ordered by operator Metro Warszawskie having arrived in January this year.

The Warsaw Inspiro project was launched in 2011.

The 272 million euro order is being delivered by Siemens and Polish manufacturer Newag. The first 10 trains are being built by Siemens in Vienna, and the remaining 25 trainsets will be assembled by Newag in Nowy SÄ…cz.

Warsaw will be the first city in the world to use the Inspiro.

Sandra Gott-Karlbauer, chief executive of Siemens’ Urban Transport Business Unit, said: “We look forward to seeing our new metro generation carrying the first passengers through the Polish capital in the very near future.”
