Cityringen tunnelling contract awarded

HOCHTIEF and Züblin have been awarded a €150 million tunnelling contract for a section of the Cityringen metro line in Copenhagen.

The joint venture will construct 3.5 kilometres of tunnels and a new metro station at Nordhavn, creating a branch line off of the Cityringen line – a new entirely underground, fully automated metro which will will extend for 16 kilometres through the centre of Copenhagen.

Work is expected to begin this month and will be completed in 2019.

Ansaldo STS has already won the contract to supply the rolling stock and train control systems for the new line.

Seventeen new stations will be built around the city along the route of the new system by 2018.
