DB Schenker Rail has begun operating a new weekly service between Cologne and Cerkezköy, Turkey.

The service adds to DB Schenker’s offering in Turkey, having launched the Bosporus Shuttle train in September 2012 between Germany and Halkali in Istanbul.

DB Schenker plans to eventually run three round trips a week along the route.

The service will move goods for Turkish company Ulusoy Logistics which had previously been transported by road and sea.

The trains, which will take five to six days to travel over 2,000 kilometres through Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, will be equipped with double pocket wagons for the transportation of semi-trailers.
