T8 tramway – a light rail network under construction in northern Paris – is to begin operating a test service ahead of its full commissioning next month.

The test phase will be used for driver training and to check all operating systems are behaving correctly under normal service conditions.

The 8.45-kilometre line connects Saint-Denis – Porte de Paris station to Villetaneuse-University and Epinay-sur-Seine station via two branch lines. From December 16, the system will operate 20 trams an hour through the core and 10 trams an hour on the branch lines at peaks times.

More than 60,000 passengers are forecast to use the line every day.

T8 will include connections to line 13 of the Paris Metro, RER D and Line H Transilien at Gare St Denis.
