Deutsche Bahn (DB) plans to invest an extra €200 million over the next three years improving long-distance rail services.

The money will be spent upgrading rolling stock, including refurbishing onboard bistros and toilets, and making Wi-Fi available to all passengers.

Speaking to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, DB’s Ulrich Homburg said that free Wi-Fi would be available to all passengers on long-distance services from 2016.

In 2010, DB launched a €330 million programme to improve service quality, recruiting additional customer service and security staff. DB has since committed an additional €70 million a year to winter-preparation works and €90 million annually for vegetation management in a bid to improve reliability.
