The ArRiyadh Development Authority (ADA) has awarded Indra a €266 million contract to develop the ticketing and access control systems for the Saudi capital’s substantial new metro network.
Described as the ‘biggest ticketing project in the world’, Indra’s ticketing technology will be rolled out across all six lines of Riyadh’s planned network and more than 80 stations.
Indra, which was chosen from a shortlist of 10 other multinational businesses, is already active in Saudi Arabia. The company is currently a technological partner to the Haramain High-Speed Rail Project between the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
The contract includes maintenance and technological assistance for 10 years.
The Governor of Riyadh, Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, chairman of the High Comission for the Development of Arriyadh and chairman of the High Ministerial Committee for the Riyadh Public Transport Project, and Indra’s executive vice president, Eduardo Bonet, signed the contract on January 5 in Riyadh.
