Italian rolling stock manufacturer AnsaldoBreda is to supply 47 driverless metro trains for Milan’s M4 line.

The new 15-kilometre metro line will connect Milan’s Linate Airport to San Cristoforo railway station. Like M5, the line will be equipped with platform screen doors and served by a fleet of driverless electric multiple units (EMUs).

The four-car articulated vehicles have a capacity for 600 passengers and a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h.

AnsaldoBreda will assemble the carriages at its sites in Pistoia and Reggio Calabria.
