Vienna Administrative Court has blocked an appeal by Siemens to award Bombardier an order for 156 new low-floor Flexity trams.

Wiener Linien has now formally awarded the contract to Bombardier. Managing director Günter Steinbauer said the organisation had carried out a ‘fair and transparent approach’.

The new units will arrive in the city from 2018, replacing the current high-floor E2 trams. The €562 million order includes maintenance of the new trams once delivery is complete in 2026.

Bombardier will build the new vehicles, which can carry 214 passengers, at its site in Vienna.
