An Arup/Rambøll joint venture has been charged with designing a new double-track light rail system in Copenhagen.

The JV will be responsible for the design coordination and technical integration of the 27-kilometre network, which will follow the route of the Ring 3 motorway.

As well as being 27 kilometres in length, the system will include 27 stations and be served by a fleet of 27 light rail vehicles.

Metroselskabt was given the power by the Danish government to construct the new line in February 2014.

The system is scheduled to open in 2020.
