Stockholm has launched a public consultation into plans to extend the Blue Line metro.

The city council hopes to take the line south of its current Kungsträdgården terminus to Sofia and, via branch line east, Nacka.

In a statement the council said: “The subway will need to be expanded to Stockholm and the region to continue to grow.”

The project will create new stations in Sofia and Nacka. The Nacka branch could also include new stations in Sickla and Järla. From Sofia, the line will continue south and connect up with the Hagsätra branch of the Green Line.

Stockholm citizens have until March 12 to submit their thoughts on the plans.
