Qatar Rail has relaunched the pre-qualification process for the first phase of its long-distance passenger and freight network.

Phase 1 includes the “design and construction of a of an operational slab track railway using diesel rolling stock”.

The line will connect the capital Doha with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and complete Qatar’s segment of the Middle East’s formidable GCC railway project.

A pre-qualification process was first run early last year, but with the tender now set to be issued mid-2015, the process is being re-run.

The tender includes earthworks, bridges, culverts and track work, as well as the design of freight yards and passenger stations.

Applications must be submitted by March 22.
