SunRail has received a federal grant to deliver phase two of the Central Florida passenger rail network south to Osceola County.

The Federal Transit Authority (FTA) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced that it has reached an agreement on the overall cost, scope and timetable of the project to extend the system 27 kilometres south on the first anniversary of the line’s opening.

The first 50-kilometre section of the network connecting DeBary to Orlando entered passenger service on May 1, 2014.

Phase two includes five additional stations and is scheduled to open in 2016.
