NET Phase 2, an extension which will add two new lines to Nottingham’s tram network, is finally set to open tomorrow.
The expanded network was due to open in December 2014 but delays associated with utilities works have delayed the project’s completion by several months.
The 17.5-kilometre Y-shaped extension to Clifton and Beeston will more than double the size of the existing network.
Passengers will be able to travel along the Clifton and Chilwell lines from 6am on August 25. NET has announced a special discounted ticket offer to coincide with the launch.
Nottingham City Council’s tram lead, Councillor Jane Urquhart, said: “This is a really great day for Nottingham. It marks the dawn of a new era when NET becomes a true network and, with trams running from every seven minutes, it is all set to provide easier access to key locations right across the city.
“The tram provides the backbone to the city’s integrated transport network, underpinning all the efforts to reduce congestion, improve the environment and make Nottingham an even better place to live, work or visit.”
The new lines will connect the Queen’s Medical Centre and ng2 Business Park to the light rail network.
Nottingham ordered 22 Citadis new trams to serve the larger network.
Suppose there is plans for Phase 3 of the NET and possible extension to Derby if it’s to be talked by both Nottingham & Derby City Councils about the NET to be extended to Derby which would pass over or under the M1 Motorway just like Manchester Metrolink that passes over the 2 major motorways-M60 & M62.
And also possible extensions to Mansfield.
