Škoda Transportation has been contracted by the Turkish city of Eskişehir to supply 14 battery-powered ForCity Classic trams.

The €26 million contract follows an order for 72 trams – 12 of which also utilised battery technology – for the city of Konya.

Batteries will allow the trams to run for up to a kilometre without overhead catenary either as an alternative to wires or where the catenary has failed.

The unidirectional trams will be 30 metres long and 100 per cent low floor.

ForCity Classic trams went into service in Konya last year and the first vehicle will be delivered to Eskişehir within 19 months of the contract being signed.
