Railcare orders last-mile Vectron locomotives

Railcare has ordered seven Vectron locomotives from Siemens, becoming 25th customer for the manufacturer’s popular locomotive series.

The 6.4-MW locomotive will have a top speed of 160 km/h and will be used by Railcare to operate freight services in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Each of the seven units will also have a diesel power module, allowing it top operate on short non-electrified sections of line and removing the need for a shunting locomotive at freight yards.

The contract will Siemens also includes the maintenance of Railcare’s Vectron locomotives for the next eight years.
