A detailed planning application for a new railway station at Inverness Airport has been submitted by the Highlands and Islands Strategic Transport Partnership (HITRANS).

The application includes plans for a single platform on the northern side of the Inverness-Aberdeen line designed to accommodate 2+4 and 2+5 HST units.

As well as the airport, the parkway station at Dalcross will serve the Inverness Airport Business Park and proposed housing developments.

The application also indicates that there will be a 150-vehicle car park designed to allow a Park and Ride service to and from the airport.

The application, which is considered the first phase of the scheme, will also require the closure of a level crossing in Dalcross.

Phase two of the project would involve doubling the line and adding a second platform, allowing for the introduction of an hourly service between Inverness and Aberdeen, and a half hourly service between Inverness and Elgin.
