The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting (DB E&C) designed to promote the ‘exchange of railway engineering knowledge’ between the two countries.
The MoU has set out several priority areas for the partnership to focus on; these include asset management, reliability, technology and research, safety and security, skills, and customer service.
Announcing the signing of the MoU, LTA’s deputy chief executive, Infrastructure & Development, Chua Chong Kheng, said: “As we work towards expanding our rail network to 360 km by 2030, we also need to have access to and build up more railway engineering expertise.
“This MOU signing is part of plans to continue developing our engineers’ professional competencies and capabilities.
“There are common challenges across rail industries in both countries and we can learn as well as exchange experience in optimising manpower, processes and technologies, and this collective knowledge will then lead to improvements in practices for rail development across both countries.
“Newly acquired knowledge can also help build deeper and wider engineering capabilities for rail maintenance and asset management in Singapore.”
