SYTRAL has reached a deal with Alstom to supply new rubber-tyred metro trains for Lyon’s TCL metro network.

The order includes an initial 30 vehicles worth €140 million and options for up to 18 more.

Initially, the new trains will operate on lines A, B and D to meet an estimated 30 per cent increase in passenger numbers over the coming years.

Line B will be the first to receive the new units in 2019.

Alstom has said the trains will be 96 per cent recyclable and will consume 25 per cent less energy than the current fleet.
