Siemens brought together staff at its factory in Sacramento to see off the first completed train of the new Brightline fleet.

The trainset, which consists of four carriages and two diesel-electric locomotives, is being transported across the country by rail to Brightline in Florida.

The first complete train has rolled off the production line in Sacramento in less than 18 months. Four more trains are being supplied by Siemens initially; these will be delivered by the end of March next year, Siemens has said.

Michael Reininger, president of Brightline, said: “Having our first Brightline trainset completed and on its way to Florida is a major accomplishment and brings us one step closer to the introduction of our innovative new train service.

“Once in Florida, our operations team will begin the required testing as we ready to launch Brightline between Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach next summer.”

Brightline announced the milestone on its website. It also said its stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are now 70 per cent complete.
