SNCF Réseau has outsourced the renewal of the overhead catenary on RER C between Paris and Brétigny.
On February 2, RC², a consortium which includes TSO Caténaires, SETEC Ferroviaire, ETF and Mobility, has been awarded a €277 million contract to renew the overhead lines. Work will begin next year.
SNCF said it is the first time it has outsourced catenary renewals in this way. By 2020, SNCF Réseau, which is providing 100 per cent of the financing for this set of renewals, plans to award €5.7 billion of works to external contractors.
A total of 180 km of catenary will be replaced by 2024 by new modern, high-performance equipment between Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand station in south-east Paris and Brétigny.
The new overhead lines will be able to cope with a wider temperature range and will support the growth in traffic predicted along the route.
