Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has placed a €100 million order with Alstom for nine more six-car X’Trapolis trainsets.

When the final train is delivered at the end of next year, PTV’s fleet of X’Trapolis EMUs will have grown to 101. PTV ordered the very first train in 2002.

All of the trains will have been built by Alstom’s Ballarat factory, which itself is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Mark Coxon, managing director of Alstom in Australia and New Zealand, said: “We are proud to have been trusted by the Victorian government to supply a further 9 trains from our industrial base in Ballarat.

“This will guarantee regional jobs, training and investment and ensure ongoing support to Alstom’s extensive network of local suppliers.”
