Salini Impregilo and Astaldi have been awarded a €397 million contract to design and build the first section of the Naples-Bari high-speed rail link.

The first 15.5km segment will go inland from Naples to Cancello. Services will terminate in Naples at the new Napoli Afragola station. Three other new stations – Acerra, Casalnuovo and Centro Commerciale – will also be constructed.

The contract was awarded by Italferr to the 60/40 Salini Impregilo/Astaldi joint venture.

The line is scheduled to open in 2022.
