Bombardier has signed a contract with Vlexx to supply 21 three-car Talent 3 EMUs.

Vlexx, a subsidiary of Die Länderbahn, will operate the new fleet in Germany’s Saar region. Commercial service is scheduled to begin in December 2019.

In January, Vlexx was awarded the Elektro-Netz Saar RB lot 2 operating contract, which includes routes linking Saarbrücken with Lebach-Jabach, Neubrücke and Homburg, as well as between Homburg and Illingen.

Bombardier described the EMUs as ‘low-noise trains’. There has been a particular effort across the German rail network in the past couple of years to reduce noise pollution generated by passenger and freight trains.

Frank Höhler, managing director of Vlexx, said: “With the expansion of our railway network and our fleet to a total of 84 vehicles, we are ensuring long-term business growth.”

He added: “With the new trains, our passengers will experience much more comfortable rides. Passengers will benefit from many extras, like large panorama windows and a modern passenger information system.”
