Bombardier’s Chinese joint venture, Bombardier Sifang Transportation (BST), has been awarded a contract to supply 40 high-speed train cars for Guangxi’s high-speed railway.

The firm announced today (April 25) that it will supply the CRH1A-A new generation high-speed train cars, which are manufactured in Qingdao, to the Nanning Railway Bureau, a regional bureau of the China Railway Corporation (CRC).

Worth 543 million Chinese RMBs (€73 million), the deal for five eight-car trainsets is the 14th contract between the CRC and BST and takes the number of cars delivered to China to more than 3,000.

Bombardier says that the new high-speed trains will help integrate Guangxi into the national network and boost the local economy.

President of Bombardier China Jianwei Zhang said: “Our cutting-edge rail technology is one of the driving forces behind the rapid development of China’s advanced high speed train network.

“We have already provided over 3,000 high speed train cars to the Chinese market and this latest contract is further proof of our ability to consistently leverage our expertise and experience to contribute to the development of local and national economies in regions like Guangxi.”

Bombardier owns 50 per cent of the shares in BST, which is controlled by its partner CRRC Sifang.
