Deutsche Bahn (DB) has launched a new engineering and consulting business for the UK.

DB made the announcement during the Railtex trade show at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham.

The new undertaking will combine the company’s existing DB Systemtechnik, ESG Rail and DB Engineering & Consulting business units, focussing on engineering services for both the infrastructure and rolling stock markets.

DB Engineering & Consulting was founded in April 2016 following the merger of DB ProjektBau and DB International.

The three organisations are part of the overall DB Group and employ around 5,000 around the world.

Christoph Kirschinger, general manager sales, DB Systemtechnik, said: “We believe the UK to be an important market for us and think that our global experience in the fields of rolling stock engineering, high speed, infrastructure and light rail will bring many benefits to this market.

“DB Systemtechnik, ESG Rail and DB Engineering & Consulting will bring a depth of expertise and knowledge to the industry that will help us to become a key player and the largest specialist rail consultancy in the UK.”

Nick Goodhand, general manager and engineering director, ESG Rail, added: “DB’s international expertise, coupled with our local rolling stock knowledge, makes us an ideal partner for railway projects in the UK.”
