Shentong Bombardier Rail Transit Vehicle Maintenance Company (SHBRT) has been awarded two contracts worth a combined 1.1 billion Chinese RMBs (€145 million) for the Shanghai Metro.

Under the contract, SHBRT will provide a 10-year overhaul service for 498 metro cars operating on Shanghai Metro’s lines 7 and 9.

SHBRT was established in 2012 and is a 50/50 joint venture between Bombardier Transportation and Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.

President of Bombardier China Jianwei Zhang said: “Shanghai operates the longest metro network in the world and we are very proud to be chosen to support this megacity’s expanding mobility by providing our broadest portfolio and top quality products, services and solutions.”

To overhaul the 498 metro cars – which were built by another Bombardier Chinese joint venture, Changchun Bombardier Railway Vehicles Company – SHBRT will adopt Bombardier’s predictive asset management tool, ORBITA, and IBM’s Maximo Asset Configuration Manager.

Shanghai Metro Line 7 runs from the Baoshan to the Pudong district. Line 9 runs from Songjiang to Pudong.
