Service operator and infrastructure manager Russian Railways has signed an agreement with JSC Tuva Energy Industrial Corporation (TEIC) to build a new railway line in Russia.

It is hoped the 410 km Elegest-Kyzyl-Kuragino line – which is estimated to be complete by 2022 – will transport 15 million tonnes of coal from the Elegest coal mine each year.

Russian Railways – one of the biggest transport companies in the world – will operate the line once it is running and will also oversee the infrastructure.

JSC TEIC will act as one of the investors of the project, and will also be the main consumer of services for freight transportation from Elegest.

The agreement was made between Russian Railways president Oleg Belozerov and JSC TEIC managing director Ruslan Baisarov on June 1.
