Money from the EU’s Regional Development Fund will support the construction of a new subway line in Sofia, Bulgaria.
More than €86 million has been set aside by the European Commission to finance work on the western part of Line 3 of the Bulgarian capital’s subway network.
The funding will be used to construct four new underground stations on a 4 km-long section, from the city centre to the Sofia Ring road via the Ovcha Kupel district.
Last year a first investment package from the commission worth more than €368 million was adopted to support the construction of Line 3.
When complete, the new line is expected to be 16km-long with 19 stations, bringing the total Sofia subway network to 56 km of lines and 53 stations by 2020.
