The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has appointed an international consortium to build Haga station in Gothenburg.

Construction of the new station is expected to begin in 2018 and is part of the planned 8km West Link double track railway connection to ease congestion in the city – 6km of which includes a railway tunnel.

The group is made up of Gülemark, of Turkey, which has a 40 per cent stake; Astaldi, of Italy, which also has a 40 per cent stake; and Norwegian-owned Segermo, which has a 20 per cent stake.

The SEK 2.3 billion contract includes the construction of the new station as well as a 1.5km tunnel.

Haga – which is one of three underground stations to be built for West Link – will have three entrances.

West Link Transport Agency project manager Bo Larsson said: “There has been an extensive process that ensured that we have chosen the right contractor in terms of both quality and price.”

The decision could be challenged.
