Italferr, the consulting subsidiary of Italian state-owned railway infrastructure and service provided FS Group, has been awarded an initial contract for the Trasandino tunnel, Peru, in association with other engineering companies.

Worth €1.6 million, the contract covers a transport study, a financial analysis of the project and an evaluation of the technological solutions to be adopted.

The 23.2km Trasandino tunnel is a multi-billion dollar mega project to develop rail links between the capital city of Lima and the country’s central regions.

It will pass through part of Peru’s Andes mountain range and reduce the journey time between Lima and the city of Huancayo.

The deal continues FS’ association with Peru. In 2015 it was awarded a contract to supervise the construction of Line 2 of the Lime Metro.
