Slovenian Railways has launched a tender for 25 new passenger trains.

The railway company’s subsidiary, SŽ Passenger Transport, has published the €350 million tender, which has been described by the operator as the country’s largest investment in rolling stock for passenger services.

The ‘landmark’ contract also includes an option in the future for an additional 25 trains.

The first trains are expected to be delivered by the end of 2018 or start of 2019.

The announcement was made by SŽ Passenger Transport on May 31 and is part of a wider scheme to improve the quality of Slovenia’s public transport.

Slovenian Railways is run by the state and was created in 1991.
