Passenger train operator Amtrak has announced plans to build a locomotion service facility in Seattle, Washington, USA.
Amtrak – which operates across 46 states – said that it is the third major investment in its Seattle maintenance facility, which services the Empire Builder, Coast Starlight and Sound Transit Sounder trains.
The existing buildings will be demolish as part of the work with a new 31,000 square foot locomotive shop built in its place, complete with a new 125 tonne drop table – funded by the Washington State Department of Transportation – and a 55 tonne overhead bridge crane.
The project is scheduled to begin this month and be completed in June 2019 by PCL Construction Services, which has previously built a number of Amtrak structures.
