The first new railway line in almost 150 years on Stockholm’s commuter rail system is set to open.
On July 9, Sweden’s Prime Minister, Stefan Löfven, will be joined by key stakeholders to inaugurate the Stockholm City Line (Citybanan), which runs between Tomteboda and southern Stockholm, beneath the capital city.
Two new stations, Stockholm Odenplan and Stockholm City, will be opened on the 3.7 mile-long commuter rail tunnel too.
Services will run on the line from July 10. Once operational the line will double the metro system’s capacity through central Stockholm.
The Prime Minister will be joined by infrastructure minister Anna Johansson, transport administration general Lena Erixon, SL’s CEO Caroline Ottosson, Stockholm county council’s transport councilor Kristoffer Tamsons, Mälardalen council vice chairman Monica Johansson, and Stockholm’s finance commissioner Karin Wanngård at the ceremony.
