Talgo’s AVE Class 102 has reached a speed of 310km/h in a dynamic test run for Saudi Arabia’s Makkah-Medina high speed railway.

The train – which is marketed as the Talgo 350 – has to successfully run at 330km/h (maximum speed + 10 per cent) in order to meet the final approval before it becomes operational.

The tests were conducted from King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) to Medina, crossing the desert in extreme environmental conditions with temperatures near to 50ºC.

The trains have been adapted to the climatology and geographic conditions with more than 30 additional technologies specifically developed for this project.

Talgo is supplying 35 AVE Class 102 trainsets for the Makkah-Medina high speed railway, a 453km line that is currently under construction in Saudi Arabia.
