Rail Cargo Operator (RCO) has expanded its network with the opening a new 1,109km freight link between Arad, Romania, and Verona, Italy.

Three weekly services will run in each direction in 40 hours but market demand means that the logistics firm is already working to increase the number of round trips to five.

RCO said that the new route seizes on an intermodal corridor that has “so far barely been linked”, with goods predominantly transported by road between northern Italy’s inland port, Interporto Quadrante Europa di Verona, and the Railport Arad.

It said the service offers an “attractive rail alternative” for all combined transport containers and can transport all container types, tanks, swap bodies and trailers.

The freight link – which passes through five European countries – was launched on June 19.
